NIH/NIDDK Research

Funded Projects

Each year the federal government, through a division of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) called the National Institute of Diabetes, Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), funds a number of projects on or related to IC.

The availability of funding for these projects has been largely due to the ICA's successful pleas for increased IC research funding before Congress. In fact, thanks to the ICA, the very first government IC-related research project received funding over a decade ago. And, many of the researchers’ names and their projects listed below may sound familiar to you. That is because they received their initial funding through the ICA’s Pilot Research Program or the Fishbein Family IC Research Foundation. These two Programs help to "open the doors" for many researchers, and enable them to obtain large government grants to further pursue their explorations into the causes and treatments of IC.

Below you will find all NIDDK IC-related research grants that have been awarded, to date. The projects are categorized by year, followed by the project name and recipient. In some cases you will also find a brief description of the project.
